Capychat

Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated October 22, 2026

Capychat is a cozy app for two people in a relationship. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and the choices you have.

1. Who we are

Capychat is made by Halfwind and operated by Evergoods Holdings LLC, its publisher on the App Store and Google Play (“we” or “us”). Privacy questions and requests can be sent to hello@halfwind.studio.

2. At a glance

  • What you make in Capychat is shared only with the one person you are paired with. There is no public feed.
  • We use your information only to run Capychat. We do not sell it, show ads, use analytics SDKs, or track you across other apps and websites.
  • You can use Capychat as a guest, or sign in with Apple or Google.
  • Purchases go through Apple or Google. We never see your payment details.
  • You can unpair or delete your account at any time in the app. Deleting your account deletes your data from our database.

3. What we collect

  • Account: an account identifier. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an identifier for that account and, if the provider shares it, your email address. Guests have no email address on file.
  • Profile: the nickname you choose and its four-digit tag, your capybara’s look, and your birthday if you add it (the year is optional).
  • Things you share with your partner: drawings (the strokes and the images made from them for the widget), answers to the daily question and to question cards, check-in photos and their captions, moods, boops, gifts, room decor, special dates such as anniversaries and birthdays, and the activity shown in Chime.
  • Onboarding answers: your answers to the short questions when you start, used to set things up for you.
  • Device information: push notification tokens, Live Activity tokens on iPhone, a random token that lets your widget fetch your partner’s latest drawing, and your time zone so daily questions and reminders follow your day.
  • Purchases: whether you have Capychat Plus, and records of yuzu bundles you buy, so we can unlock Plus and add yuzus to your shared basket.
  • Reports: if you report your partner’s photo, the report and the reason you chose.
  • Support: the email address and message you send when you contact us.
  • Launch waitlist: if you join the waitlist on this website, see section 4.

Photos are only sent when you take or choose one for a check-in. Capychat does not collect your location, contacts, health data or browsing history.

4. How we use it

We use this information to run Capychat: to create your account, pair you with your partner, show your shared room, deliver drawings, boops and reminders to your partner’s phone and widget, unlock Capychat Plus and yuzu bundles, review reported photos, keep the service safe, and answer support requests. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell or rent it.

Launch waitlist. If you join the waitlist on our website, we collect your email address, the phone you chose (iPhone, Android or both), the page you signed up on, that you ticked the consent box, and when you signed up. We use it only to email you when Capychat launches, not for any other marketing, and we do not share it with anyone except the providers that run our database and send email. To stop abuse, the form also keeps a temporary count of sign-up attempts, recorded under a one-way scrambled form (a hash) of your IP address and email address rather than the addresses themselves.

5. Who can see what you share

Only you and the person you are paired with. Your nickname and tag are shown to your partner. Live drawing strokes pass through our relay as you draw and are not stored there.

6. Service providers

These companies process data on our behalf, only to provide their services to us:

  • Convex: our database, file storage (including drawings and check-in photos) and server.
  • Cloudflare: the live drawing relay, and the network for this website.
  • Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google): delivering notifications and widget updates to devices.
  • Apple and Google: Sign in with Apple and Sign in with Google, if you use them, and payments through the App Store and Google Play.
  • RevenueCat: manages subscriptions and in-app purchases. It receives a random app user ID and your purchase information from Apple or Google.
  • Vercel hosts this website, and our email provider handles messages sent to our support address.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of people using Capychat.

7. How long we keep it

  • We keep your account and what you share while your account exists.
  • Unpairing: your shared room closes for both of you and neither of you can see it anymore. Check-in photos, captions and any reports about them are deleted right away. Some other records from the closed room, such as drawings and answers, may remain in our database; email us and we will delete them.
  • Deleting your account: see section 8.
  • Reports are kept with the reported photo and are deleted when that photo is deleted.
  • Support emails are kept as long as we need them to help you. You can ask us to delete them.
  • Waitlist emails are kept until Capychat launches and we send the launch email, or until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, whichever comes first. To be removed, write to hello@halfwind.studio from the address you signed up with.
  • Copies of deleted data may remain for a limited time in backups and logs kept by our service providers before they are removed.

8. Deleting your account

In Capychat, open Us, then Settings, and tap Delete account. This permanently deletes your account, profile, devices and tokens, your Plus record, your personal yuzu and purchase records, your gifts and Chime entries, and your shared room with its drawings, answers, check-in photos, special dates, decor and yuzus. Your partner keeps their own account and is unpaired. If you joined the launch waitlist with the same email address as your account, that entry is deleted too. We also ask RevenueCat to delete your customer record. Deletion starts right away and finishes in the background.

Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription; cancel it in your App Store or Google Play settings. Apple and Google keep their own records of purchases under their privacy policies.

If you can’t use the app, you can ask us to delete your account by email. See Delete your account.

9. Your choices and rights

  • Notifications can be turned off at any time in your phone’s settings.
  • You can add or remove special dates in the app, unpair, or delete your account.
  • You can ask us to access, correct or delete your information by writing to hello@halfwind.studio. We may need to confirm that the account is yours before acting on a request. Depending on where you live, you may have other rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority.

10. Security

Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit what we collect and who can reach it.

11. Where data is processed

Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries, which may have different data protection laws from where you live.

12. Children

Capychat is made for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has used Capychat, contact us and we will delete the account.

13. Changes

We will post changes to this policy on this page and update the date above.
